I saw The 5th Dimension a few years later. They weren't too good either.
Growing up in So. Cal (when it was still awesome) there was too much great stuff going on that jaded me on a lot of appreciation for 'lesser' entertainment. Over the decades in Hawaii I've recouped a lot of those losses, but that was the first and last stage production for me.

Might that be more a matter of taste than of talent?

SoCal certainly did have it's heyday. I know others who don't enjoy stage productions. I was raised in community theater so thoroughly enjoy a really good production. Quite the opposite for a poor production. I won't sit thru one! Sorry to read that you consider theater 'lesser' entertainment. For me, entertainment is just that...entertainment. Some I like better than others but I don't consider any of the genres 'lesser'...'cept porn!

I liked the 5D's music, they were just disapointing on stage.
Funny, in high school (post HAIR) I actually tried a stage class and had fun (cute girls...) even tho shy as hell at times for some reason. I got into hard core acting, but that's not what the teacher wanted. Even then, I knew I was good at it. Another boat missed...
I put lesser in the ' ' not because for me it's less viable, it just never shot my big toe up in my boot (alluding to a Little Richard quote), and I'm not about to spend time with things that don't keep my interest when there is plenty that does. For me, stage acting is too lite weight, and as usual, I like the heavy stuff.
I went grudgingly to The Aquarius Theater in the late 60s for this and promptly fell asleep. It was a good sleep.
RW - thank you for knowing your limits. I took my sister to see Wicked in San Francisco and she slept thru it too. I am obsessed with Wicked, it literally changed my life but sis just did not 'get it!'
This is community theater and we are all students or have full time jobs. We've only been rehearsing since January and a professional production would have had many more months to prepare. I still think that we have an amazing and talented director, choreographer, musical director, cast and crew. We only get paid a nominal fee but we dedicate our valuable time and energy to this project because we LOVE what we do. If you can't appreciate that, then please don't come.
For those of you who are coming (or considering it) we had our first run through with the live band last night and it added a whole new dimension to our performance. It will be a great show - we are just adding the finishing touches in terms of lighting, sound and costumes and we have our first preview Sunday night. I am so excited to get on that stage and sing Aquarius for you all!

I can certainly appreciate all that, that's the good part. But what I gleaned from those I went with and have heard all these years later is there's not a lot to get. That had it not been for the nude stuff the show would have had a short life and dissapeared. Maybe ya'll will bridge that gap, so have fun sans me and I wish you a good crowd.
Just post a provocative picture for us later
When the moon is in the seventh house And Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars... today the cast of HAIR will take to the stage.
The show is SOLD OUT for the first two weeks, and they've added a 4th week.
Have a groovy opening!.
Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!
So, we're OPEN! This is me in the ER 4 hours before show time on opening night... bronchitis caused a severe asthma attack. I couldn't breathe to talk let alone sing! Thank goodness for prednisone and albuterol (x2 treatments) - doc didn't want me singing and dancing but you know what they say... THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
Unfortunately, opening night was not a good night for me (technical difficulties and my voice was hoarse from all the coughing) but tonight I hopefully redeemed myself. Mahalo for coming to our second night tutusue! I do appreciate the support and knew that you already loved the show. I hope you were up on your feet and getting your groove on at the end of the night.
MM - now that we're open, tix are going fast and I think the first 3 weekends are almost sold out. The word is definitely out on the coconut wireless that the show is not to be missed. I hope you and Mrs. MM have your beads and hippy gear ready for 3/21. We've had quite a few people getting dressed up in the audience and it really makes us feel good!
LET THE SUN SHINE IN...
