  • 1968 Rickenbacker Model 360 6-string guitar

I'm thinking of putting this up on eBay, but if someone local wants to give me a good price for it I'll take him or her up on it.

It's serial number HK1600. I bought it in 1973, and all parts are, to the best of my knowledge, original. The neck, fingerboard, and frets have no wear at all. It has two toaster pickups, two jacks (one Ric-o-Sound, one regular). It has the original hardshell case, with only ordinary wear from air travel a few times (and none since 1978).

It hasn't been played seriously since 1974; it's been living in its case in my house untouched. Even after I first bought it I don't think I played it more than about three hours, mostly because I didn't own an amp. I bought a Pignose later on, but it didn't get any use to speak of either.

Schweeeeet! I'm probably not really in the market for another guitar, but . . .

I don't have any idea what it might be worth. There's a Kelly Blue Book that you can get a ballpark price on it. Any idea how much you might want for it?

If there's a Blue Book, I don't know where to look for it. Do you? I'm looking at eBay for comparable guitars and thinking this one is in mint shape, so it's probably better value than some of the used ones that show up there.

I'm sure I've found something like this on the net in the past, but I can't find it now. There are paper Bluebooks for guitar prices:

You might be able to email Elderly Instruments and get a rough quote from them.

You're helping, pal. I'll mail some of these guys. I've seen them at eBay for as little as $1,999.00 and as much as $7,500.00. Obviously I'd like the highest price I can get.

Blue Book Publications offers annual and multi-year subscriptions, but it also offers a 24-hr access period for $14.95. That's better than the $39.95 for a full year for an individual's purpose.

That said, the library might have a copy.

There you go. Even if they don't, $15 would be money well spent to get the right price on an instrument worth that much.

Lucked out. The library has a copy of the 2009 Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide, so I requested it.

Heck, if it were non-circulating I might even have gone (gasp!) downtown to the main branch to look!
