Website is too muddled and confusing.

              Star-Bulletin does it best.

                    Re: New Advertiser website

The biggest problem with the new Advertiser website is it's too darn cluttered.

You want it to be so simple that at a glance, you can find the stories you want.

Now it's like shopping at Don Quijote, you gotta go on a treasure hunt to navigate that site to find even the most common stories.

                    How about this:

Streamline the entire thing so all stories can be seen on the same page at a glance....No need to click on this to get here, then click on that...etc.

                      Re: New Advertiser website

It appears that the Advertiser is, on their website at least, focused on almost anything but news. Blogs, video, submissions from the general publi-at-large, they're all well and good and have their place (elsewhere), but this is supposed to be a news site, and there doesn't seem to be as much in the way of news content any more - it's being crowded out by all this extraneous stuff.

And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, their hosting of AP news still sucks, because you can only see the "Top Stories" de jour -- you can't navigate through the various sections of AP News any more, nor can you search the AP for specific stories, and that seriously hampers my ability to use that site in my job.

I guess if there were a Burt Burlingame at The Advertiser! Burl Burlingame is at the Star-Bulletin.
It's obvious Gannett provides the template, but it is also evident that they are tweaking it to make things easier to find--like blogs, which was something I had indcated I couldn't easily find a few weeks ago. People can kvetch all they want about it, but some decisions can't be made by those who constantly find fault with their site. There will always be things about Websites that people don't like.

I agree Lavagal that there will always be people who cannot be satisfied.

And I know that someone put a lot of skill, time, effort and money into designing the new look.

Still, it is really too cluttered and difficult to navigate.

To me that is the bottom line and isn't that what journalists and companies are really concerned about?

Actually, Pumpkinboy, the administration is more concerned with the bottom line than the journalists. It's just the way. If you let revenue affect your objectivity, you can't really call yourself a journalist!

It was actually a play on words

Bottom Line for journalists: getting to the heart of the matter (maybe fixing the site or tweaking it a bit)

Bottom Line for owners: making money by having a site that's easy to navigate while still making money off of ads

With all that I do appreciate the Advertiser providing this free site.

It is very helpful in keeping me and the rest of Hawaii informed
