"The Advertiser still has a child-porno afficiendo on the payroll, even though he's in jail."
Wow, I didn't think this would be so interesting. definitely some of you know insider info. The only stuff I've seen that's off, being new to this blog, is the gossip. Way off with some of the folks. MadAzza, sorry.
Why we aren't we publicly protesting these mainland guys coming in and scooping KHON and next KGMB (jr. will probably buy that one)?
Are we busy putting our own people down so when everyone's backs are turned, these very guys pounce and looking at KOIN and other cities smaller than ours, they WIN. We lose. The natives go quietly back into the
jungle pouting. Where are we when journalists (not plagiarists)
stick their necks out to make some noise? Are some of us on blogs like these, taking crack shots at folks who have the balls to speak out?
Ok so maybe you might not like him but Chris Conybeare is one of those guys. One of the watchdogs and we need more of him.
Ask around KHET, if you can find anyone there during work hours. When
he was there at least there was a recognizable miniscule piece of real
production going on.
Mike McCartney has no clue. He's busy doing lunch around town, shmoozing on state funds. (Any day you can find the guy at Duc's Bistro getting smashed) Building his run for Lt. Governor and word is, the board is actually going to let him keep his job heading KHET (into the toilet) while he campaigns.
Eddie Ayau is on the front page while our airwaves, the biggest forum we have as locals, silenty and diligently gets quashed.

"I am no journalist. I have no bussiness writing a comment here on this thread. However, I find this thread a good read."
We don't have to be journalists to have a right to say what goes on TV.
These are our airwaves and they are licensed to big corporations because
the public allows them the privilege. Kind of like government. Those politicans work for us. They owe us full disclosure.
There's a public group that is actively watchdogging Hawaii's media. If you are interested Chris Conybeare is involved. He used to produce a show for KHET called Asia Now. It was a solid news show and it broadcast all over Japan and other asian countries with news that was written here in Hawaii.
You can google him for contact information.
The current general manager of KHET exxed the show
even though it paid for itself. Everyone knew that it was
because he was one of the only professional people at the station
which is run by a guy who is a politicain, not a tv guy with a board of people who know nothing about television but they have deep contacts to local business. Like Kamehameha Schools and Hawaiian Electric, and other big companies. It's like a status thing to be involved in public tv but
they are destroying it. This station is about to go under and meanwhile they could sell the property they bought by the Hard Rock Cafe. Did you know (probably not, the public is always the last to know) that they've made about 10 million bucks on the purchase but are waiting for what?
They fired most of the staff, they don't produce any shows that are aired in the mainland, they are not players and not respected bybroadcasters because the few programs they make are amateur level.
If you're interested in why the guy Mike McCartney left politics to begin
with, there's lots out there. Really inappropriate behavior as a state
senator and he hasn't changed.
This is drifting off-topic, but yeah, KHET is pretty much doomed. The idea is to turn it into a feeder station that regurgitates national product, like those "local" radio stations that are programmed elsewhere. Soon the only staffing requirement witll be a receptionist and an engineer. And an office for Sen. Mike.
Totally agree with you. They did it with Clear Channel and Cox
Radio when they got rid of guys like Frank B. Shaner.
They're doing it with KHON and soon KGMB (the other two stations
don't even count, Mike Rosenberg at KITV just picks up a pay check).

This is trivial but what is the correct call for
this station? Is it KHET or PBS Hawaii or is it both or what?
As for plagiarism I give writers the benefit of the doubt.
They're like sponges. Half the time they probably don't know where
they get their inspiration that is unless we're talking about whole passages.
Reminds me Wayne Harada's article on Joe Moore's version of someone else's screenplay. This kind of honesty is rarely seen in Hawaii. We're so polite. People don't like to embarrass others

Admin / Mel,
I know this is off the topic of plagiarism but it's an interesting thread to
follow. Should we take it somewhere else?
