I definitely remember that Hawaiian Tel commercial. The girl was on the beach, looking at her Hawaiian bracelet, when she thought of her mom and dad. "Far Too Wide For Me" has always been a favorite.
That old HSTA commercial with the kid singing:
There's a life out there
I want so much
A bright tomorrow
I can almost touch
But I need a hand to guide me
A friend to stand beside me
We need someone's help to be what we can be
Someone to make it happen for me
Not too sure if those last two lines are right, but that's what I can remember right now.
My most favorite, though, has to be HARRY & MYRA. RIP, Mr. Tamashiro.
Tessie, "Nuf Ced" McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only
If nothing else, that has to be one of the longest running local favs. Many sequels. BOH knew they had a hit and ran with it.
I was reading Mr. Tamashiro's obit in the SB recently and I was surprised to learn that someone else was originally cast as Myra. Mrs. Tamashiro got the role when the original Myra didn't show up. Glad it worked out that way, because I just get the feeling that it wouldn't have been the same had it been someone else in that role.
A lot of us related to them because many had grandparents just like them -- they tended to their garden, they ran their store...they went to Vegas.
I miss those commercials.

That Hawaiian Tel commercial was a classic. I think it is one of the best Hawaii commercials, but not my favorite.
Back in the day when I could stand watching commercials I liked many of them. I can no longer watch syndicated TV because of the commercial barrage I'd have to endure.
The few old ones that come to mind were ones that were funny and/or made me laugh. Frank Delima came out with a few good ones.
The animated commercial on KIKU with Kamen Rider saying "I am going to Daiei" was goofy and memorable. I probably have to be reminded of what I liked since I'm drawing a blank now.
