I know only 4 KHNL on-air staffers were retained but does anyone know how many overall KHNL production, sales and technical staff was retained?

Erika reports this morning on a lunch presentation in which the KGMB folks talked or didn't talk about the merger:

Honestly, if they should do a channel swap, how are they going to broadcast BOTH CBS and MyNetworkTV to the neighbor islands when currently, I can't watch KFVE on [East] Molokai because the Maui transmitter for that station (separate from the Ulupalakua transmitter) is low-powered?

What is the plan, Raycom and MCG?

Looks like Keahi came out on top, he has both the flagship shows the 6pm and 10pm

            Go Noel!

Congratulations to Stephanie, Stacy and Tanya.

Now, who will anchor the morning show?

Maybe a disgruntled KHON on-air personality will make the move. Seems that's the normal transition from KHON to KHNL.

I just caught the tail end of the KHNL newscast. Was that a farewell to reporter Zahid Arab?

I saw Diane Ako wearing a lei on today's morning show.

I'm guessing that was her last newscast.

Again, these people have done an incredible job over the years and have really made their mark on Hawaii journalism.

I wish all of them well and really hope to see them on the air again.

Talent like that should not be wasted, no matter how messed up the business becomes.

Tonight had the farewell for Sharie Shima and the sports guy. How come the sports guy was crying, but Sharie Shima was calm. Does she have another tv gig later?

Jason Tang, the sports director. Diane Ako broke down on her farewell too, you can't blame any of them for breaking down like that. Heck, I even think somewhat it might have been harder for Stephanie Lum who's staying to see all of her colleagues go like that all at once.

KHNL fades to black on Monday:

Now if you are talking history of the KHNL news, major credit should go to my friend and talented producer David Patterson who helped launch the first ever all digital newsroom in the US. Also then Emmy's were won by the newsteam when they covered the Sand Island hostage situation. They had some great talent over the years work at that station and really it's a sad farewell to KHNL news
                          as we know it.

20 years ago when the office I was working in suffered mass defections as a result of the 3rd or 4th change of bosses in about 18 months I stuck around. I had survivors' guilt and was fairly down about it for a while.

Dash had some days he learned of at the last minute. He had to use or lose. I can't blame him. He was off Tu, Th, Fri.

Tracy shafted us by not wanting to work. She said it was too far to walk from the weather wall to the temporary set. She was clearly insolent, having mentally checked out any obligation to her coworkers. And with no ties or intention of returning to Hawaii, she didn't care what bridges she burned.

During the commerical, I would answer the phones, let in the guests outside, escort them to the set, and mic them. Then run back to the desk. She was sitting right there and stubbornly refused to help. It was ridiculous. She was on Facebook or on social calls to her friends in Chicago.

Our boss heard, and scolded her. In revenge, she simply called in sick for the last 2 days. I wish she'd been edited out of the goodbye video.

I'd have had to read a 2 hour show (the weather part would just be me reading over weather graphics prepared the night before by Sharie) alone, but Paul offered to come in. I didn't have to ask. He volunteered. He is a real friend.

who is Tracy? Aren't you guys unionized? The problems you have sound like what radio goes thru. Diane your statements give me more respect of you. I've been a one man radio show before and it ain't fun especially when you have to regain your composure after dealing with crap like that off mic seconds earlier.

Keep up the good work and I hope the two teams can work together well.
