  • Da Braddahs

I haven't scrolled through all the threads under Hawaii Television, but are there any fans of "Da Bruddahs"? I have to admit, I liked their earlier episodes (or seasons). By the way, it's kind of fun to watch since Tony Silva used to catch same bus as me to Kamehameha.

    Re: Da Braddahs

As soon as I seen their skit on Local Kine Grindz, I was amazed! Da one where Tunda da' moke (James Roche) played the waiter and Don Ho (Tony Silva) played da customer. Whoah.. buss laugh!

That skit had me running to the video store (several year ago), where I found "Home is a Special Place" and "Buckaloose Christmas". Brah, there are some GREAT skits on there! So great, that I would say Da' Braddahs have the potential to top their obvious mentor, Rap Replinger.

Speaking about those videos, you guys gotta check out da' Window Tint Specialist (Home is a special place) and Tunda takes on da boxing promoter (Buckaloose Christmas).. definately fall-to-da-ground buss' laugh local classics!

On a more critical note, I would have to say James and Tony need to concentrate on a tighter script. Most of their OC-16 episodes go nowhere.. meaning, no punch line. One GREAT episode would be so much better than a whole season's worth of so-so's.

Andy Bumatai, Frank DeLima, Greg Hammer, Rap Replinger and Booga Booga all have/had direction in their routines.. a punch line where you would buss' laugh at the hook, middle or end of the skit.

On the other hand, Da' Braddahs' OC-16 episodes continuously excite with a great attempt, only to end up a (many times stupid) disappointment. It's the same problem Bula'ia had.

Da' Braddahs' production and videography work are absolutely top notch. All they need to improve on are the PUNCH LINES. And stick with the characters they're good at, lose the ones that aren't. As far as I'm concerned, "Tunda da' Moke" and "Uncle Don Ho" rock!

All-in-all, Hawaii definately NEEDS Da Braddahz! It reminds us in a comical way of who we are as "locals", and brah, some times dat' can be some funny stuffs!

yep. I just wrapped as art director and prop master on a production and the boom mic grip works wit da braddahs (da bruddah's to tiny) and he relays the sense they strive for high standards in that area... sound, editing, etc...
See Tony now and then. cool dude.

I agree with you. There are some crack up characters on Da Bruddahs. I love Tunda and Don Ho, and I also like that father/son Samoan team. I think what's funny is when humor pokes fun equally at everyone. We all got our quirks and eccentricities about us, right? Anyway, there are some skits with that father/son team...like the tree-trimming one where the father is yelling, "Bully, come down, come down now!" and Bully replies, "Dad, I AM calm! I not mad!" and they go back and forth forever until Bully decides, "Dad, I stay hungry, I think I come down now!" Then again, I'm really easily amused. I also love the huge cockaroaches that hang out eating in the house. One is telling the other, "Eh! I told you fo' be quiet befo' you wake 'um up!" while they are pillaging through the fridge. Too much! I crying just thinking about it.

They have great potential, and I hope the punch lines and stories can get a little better. Even for the easily amused like me, it can be tiresome if there's not enough thought.

That's interesting, because James Roache was two years ahead of me at Hawaii Baptist. His brother is my classmate. James was always hilarious. That's him in one of the earlier Kim Taylor Reece Hula Kahiko prints, by the way.

Small world and small island, isn't it? I just smile and laugh thinking of those high school days. Tony Silva and a couple other guys were "Poppers" at the time. They had their little group and were the "hot" guys a lot of girls lusted over. Do you remember "popping" back in the day?

By the way, James Roache must have been hilarious! I think he's a rare gem. I hope they'll be around for a long time to come. I will have to check out those earlier KTR prints...
