Employment on Maui
Hey Everyone...long time no post. I just wanted to get some opinions and suggestions about what I should look for for work? I know that many jobs won't even consider the applicant unless they are on the island, but I wanted to see if there were any suggestions? I am planning on checking with the resorts and shops when I get out to Kihei. Any information will help out a lot. Just for futher information, I have my Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a minor in Web Technology if that helps. Thanks.
Edit: Sorry, going through my old posts I have asked this question before, I apologize for being redundant

Re: Yet another Maui question
Originally posted by MiulangThere are only 2 hospitals on Maui: one in Hana, which would be totally out of the question for you if you plan to live in Kihei, and Maui Memorial Hospital in Wailuku, which serves the Central, Upcountry, South and West parts of Maui. The people of Maui have been lobbying for hospitals for the south end (Kihei) and the west end (Lahaina) for years and years. For a few months recently, there was hope that the State would approve a certificate of need for a private hospital to serve south Maui, but one of the 2 commissions that need to approve the CON turned the application down, and the decision from the ultimate decision maker is due any day now. The Governor and the Maui County Mayor both want another hospital, but it's up to the State to approve its building, even if it is a for profit, private hospital application.
The only other large healthcare organization on Maui is Kaiser Permanente, and you have to go to the main Kaiser Hawaii website to see what's available in the outpatient clinics. Kaiser uses Maui Memorial Hospital whenever it needs to hospitalize its patients, or it sends them to Kaiser on Oahu.

Here's the one to the MMH site:
http://www.mmmc.hhsc.org/
And the page with job openings, including salaries:
http://www.hhsc.org/recruit/Maui_Region.cfm
They pay significantly lower than similar positions on Oahu, I believe. I know the RN pay on Maui is much lower---I would think the same holds for other jobs with MMH.

Re: Kihei Questions
Aloha,
Maui's economy is dominated by the hospitality industry. Your best bet is to go online to the many hotels that have resorts in Kihei and Wailea and see if there are jobs that are in line with your experience, skills and interests.
People who work in radio on Maui don't do it to pay the bills; they do it because they love it, but the fact is many of them moonlight second jobs to make it work.
