You are the second person who's said this today. Alohacandy told me the same thing this afternoon. How interesting.

Ryan and Jen are probably wondering how the heck I got involved in any of this, since they both know that I'm the least "full of aloha" person I know. I was Oscar the Grouch for Halloween (complete with trash can and green wig) my senior year of high school, and I won a prize for "most believable." I am a loving person, but aloha is something I do not have and I won't even pretend.

I was just moved by HawaiiDreaming's request for info about a lei-greeting service. It seemed as wrong to me as it did to Lynn, so when Lynn offered what she offered, I knew I had to get into this, too. I confessed to Lynn that I mostly was doing this for her, so she wouldn't have to do it alone, but part of me -- the detached, writer part of me -- saw something interesting here, and I found myself getting excited about meeting Lorna as Lynn and I waited for her to show up in the baggage claim.

I had the unusual foresight to check Lorna's MySpace page before leaving home, and saw that we had a lot of similar interests (80s pop metal, namely!), so I was ready at least to talk about that. It turned out that there was a lot more to talk about than I'd have guessed. People who've been to the picnics know I despise smalltalk, but I think I did okay at first, and then we got into stuff like "What's your favorite Aerosmith song?" and I was off and running. Blaine and Mel are laughing right about now, because we had the same conversation a few weeks ago.

La Mariana is not known for great food. It was passable. Manoasurfer had the grilled chicken sandwich, which looked okay, and which he shared with AlohaCandy. HawaiiDreaming had the mahi burger, which looked a bit dry. 1stWahine had a spaghetti plate that didn't look much better than your standard cafeteria spaghetti, and which she said was passable. I had the meatloaf (one of the day's specials), which was slightly above average. There may have been an alcoholic beverage or two, but I'm not telling. I'll just say that I did buy HawaiiDreaming the fruity drink with the umbrella I promised her, and that Rupert Holmes came to mind more than once.

There was a waitress there who kept me very distracted. Not the one who served us, but another one, with a nicely rounded little tummy that I just wanted to--oops, maybe I'll save that for when Ryan gets the adult section up and running.

One person reading this knew I was going to make the sign; she'll be wondering where the coconut trees and lei went! I was sooo tired last night that I didn't have time to finish them. In fact, I had to take the posterboard and cut-out letters to the baggage claim and had JUST finished gluing on the last letter when Lorna appeared.

Someone kept commenting on how handsome TuNnL is, and it wasn't Manoa.

Before heading out to the airport, Lynn and I took a little trip to Maunakea Street for leis. I have always suspected that Lynn's claim that she "knows everyone" down there was something of an exaggeration, but as soon as she got out of my car, people were yelling at her from both sides of the street, as far as I could tell. Lynn disappeared into one lei stand while I moved things around in my car so it would accomodate our guest. She quickly emerged, empty-handed and yelling at the guys who'd yelled at her. "You don't yell at me across the street!" she scolded. I was kinda nervous.

When Lynn came back from another lei stand, she had the arm of one of the guys, who escorted her back to my car. As we drove away, at least three people (I think) waved at her. I no longer think she's exaggerating.

It was a nice get-together, and I second the nomination of La Mariana for an HT gathering. The place is mellow and the ambience is sooooo nice. Someone plan it and count me in.

The last time I was at La Mariana for dinner there was a blind piano player. It's been awhile but, iirc, this piano man was on the younger side. And, maybe the piano bar scene no longer exists at LM as it did at TL. Dunno for sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if Corky was, in fact, there but you missed him!!! He's in a cage at the entrance to the restaurant near the bar, against the right side wall. My daughter missed him 'til I started talking to him! Initially, she thought I was talking to myself!

I think I saw Annette as we entered -- she was seated and watching the door. Corky WAS there. He was right behind that wall I was seated with my back to. You walked right past him on the way in and on the way out!

Hey. You must not have been paying attention, because I looked RIGHT AT YOU and said, "That waitress over there is causing me pain," or something like that. You nodded and didn't look where I was gesturing.

nope not going to your blog... keeping it where it started....
TuNnL is my friend just as he is is yours...

I've known him for about 9 years...

He's my boy... he's your honey boy... nah j/k... everyone knows your playing...right?
wasn't he the one that you were.... well never mind....

I guess that is one of the good things about finally meeting people in person... Many people may seem like an ass online...but once you cross that bridge of real friendship...then it's on....

TuNnL - if you and 1stwahine end up.... nah... just playing ... everyone probably hanging on this entire thread....

In all seriousness.... maybe 1stwahine may have gained another "Hanai" son. In all due respect... I think 1stwahine can do much better than TuNnL!!!!!!!!!!! (he too young and inexperienced for you)
