    Re: Feds Indict Illinois Governor

Two weeks ago Burris was outraged over RB's actions, but now he takes full advantage of this gift of a Senatorship which he, as an underachiever in his field, never would have been in line for otherwise. That's an opportunist career politician. He should be denied.

She sure is getting a bad rap. I havn't paid attention to the interviews she did and have little clue about the flap, but she comes in clean and I give her the benefit of the doubt that she can pull her weight towards being a worthwhile candidate and a successful Senator. If she get's in but drops the ball along the way, the voters will decide her fate.

Burris on the other hand is being grossly hypocritical and should have said no to the Gov., and hoped he could have gotten the nod later after the dust settled.

And this morning, on the opening day of the U.S. Senate, that is exactly what happened! Interestingly enough, Roland Burris isn’t blinking. He and his attorney gave a defiant press conference immediately after being rejected, to the throng of media that followed him around like flies on rice. Even though Burris insists he’s not looking for a confrontation, I find it quite provocative that he continues to refer to himself as “the junior senator from Illinois,” while his attorney simply calls him “Senator Burris.” This after the Senate refused to allow him on the floor to take the oath of office. Get ready folks. From the sound of Timothy Wright, this is heading for federal court.

this is a fight that burris will win. the governor legally apointed him and he should be seated. the dems in the senate are going to look like fools if they pursue this against him. given the circumstance of his appointment, there is no confidence in this whole affair, but the law has been followed, and denying the citizens of illinois representation is not a good thing at this point.
or call for a special election but that will take time .
the bigger the government the smaller the citizen.

But do the citizens of Illinois (in the district Obama formerly represented) want Burris to represent them under the questionable ethical situation?

This sets the stage for a State Senate Trial to decide whether Blagojevich should be thrown out of office.

And even as he is served with an Illinois Senate impeachment summons, it looks like we at least won’t have to worry about Rod Blagojevich stealing the show at Obama’s Inauguration. For the first time in a long time, he made a prudent decision — declining the invite — in order to avoid being a circus sideshow.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich, worried he would be a “distraction” given the impeachment and criminal charges against him, won’t be going to Washington for President-elect Barack Obama’s inaugural festivities, a spokesman said today.

The governor was invited to several inaugural events, but won’t make the trip, Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero said.

I have this YouTube image of Blagojevich throwing a two-year-old tantrum to his staff, whining "But why can't I go?"

He may have to, now that his lawyers have decided to boycott the impeachment hearings.
With Gov. Rod Blagojevich's Senate impeachment trial looming at month's end, his legal team abruptly announced Friday that it would boycott the proceedings, likening them to a political lynching.

Though the decision raised the possibility that the governor won't have an attorney as the proceedings begin, Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) said he still planned to start the trial Jan. 26 as scheduled.
