Personally, IMHO the most reprehensible revelation that came of ABC’s 20/20 exclusive and it’s subsequent Nightline™ extended coverage, is that Edwards actually asked his top aide — a married man with three children — to not only claim paternity of Hunter’s unborn child, but to house “the girlfriend” in his family home. Can you imagine the questions Andrew Young’s children had about this strange pregnant woman at the dinner table?

More incredulous to me is that the fact that the Youngs agreed to the scheme! John Edwards couldn't force them to go along with this charade. But they went along with the ruse because of the carrot that Edwards dangled in front of them. (Andrew being set for life as a CEO of a charitable foundation to be funded by billionaire Bunny Mellon.) They may have rationalized this whole crazy plot to themselves and their children in a million different ways. But when you get right down to it, the bottom line is that the Youngs were taken in by greed.

              Is he even divorced yet?

And like someone commented, wouldn't be a hoot if she said no!

And it looks like they’ll be paying for that greed. As if they aren’t already stinging over the loss of the crown jewel of their allegations — the “sex tape,” — it seems now Elizabeth Edwards is hopping mad in the aftermath of Andrew Young’s scintillating revelations, and will join the unsavory cast in court.

Elizabeth Edwards Threatens Husband's Ex-Aide With Lawsuit

Andrew Young May Be Sued for Allegedly Contributing to Failure of Edwards' Marriage

By JAMES HILL, JAY SHAYLOR, CHRISTINE ROMO and LAUREN SHER
                Feb. 11, 2010

Elizabeth Edwards may be preparing to sue her husband’s longtime aide for allegedly contributing to the demise of her marriage.

In such a lawsuit, Edwards would argue an “alienation of affection,” alleging that Andrew Young’s role in covering up his former boss’s affair with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter was partly responsible for the failure of the Edwardses’ marriage, ABC News has learned.

More of the dirt - and here's the NY Times review of Andrew Young's tell-all:
                  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/14/bo...ilbrunn-t.html

A few interesting quotes from the review:
                  > Elizabeth Edwards has disputed some of the book’s allegations.
                  > Despite Young’s bid for redemption, his only real regret seems to be that Edwards’s self-destructive conduct derailed his presidential hopes — and Young’s own very personal ambitions along with them.
                  > Once Edwards began his affair with Hunter in 2006, his mental clutch slipped completely.

Meh. I think he wised up and found someone dumber than his first wife, Elizabeth.

The National Enquirer will compete for the Pulitzer prize for its coverage of the John Edwards scandal, according to the New York Times. Lovely.

Sig Gissler, administrator of the prizes, says he and his colleagues never publicly discuss the eligibility of any specific publication. “We apply our criteria, and if publications meet them, we allow them to participate,” he said.

Considering the ugliness of the story itself, this seems somehow fitting, don'cha think?

I am inclined to believe Edwards’ attorney when he says:
No one would have known or could be expected to know that these payments would be treated as campaign contributions, and there is no way Senator Edwards knew that fact either.
No court has interpreted the definition of “campaign contributions” this broadly, and all Edwards has to do now is create a “reasonable doubt.” Remember, John’s wife Elizabeth was fighting cancer at the time. A highly successful trial lawyer like Edwards will easily persuade a jury that the sole purpose of hush money was to hide his affair from his wife — and had nothing to do with his political campaign.
