Good to see elder statesmen Kissinger coming to the support of the President, although I've never put much stock into his own readings of Middle East affairs. Let's not forget that it was Kissinger (along with the Rockefellers) who strongly urged President Jimmy Carter to grant the exiled Shah admission into the US after the 1979 revolution. This fateful decision led to angry Iranians to storm the US embassy and hold the American workers hostage for over a year. More importantly, it tainted an already distrustful relationship between the US and the then-fledgling Islamic Republic govt.
If Kissinger has indeed learned from his past mistakes, then great. At least he will have no part in calling for decisions that would lead the US to once again stumble in a diplomatic mess that he helped to create.
