Re: Apple Store Waikiki
A friend of mine, Mark, has been tracking the progress of the Waikiki store. His reports have sparked some curiosity from the ifoAppleStore site as to the layout and construction.

Re: Apple Store Waikiki
I wonder if Apple products will be marked up because the store is in such a high rent area. Or will everything sell for the same price as it is at the Kahala and Ala Moana Stores? There is no compelling reason to go to Waikiki to buy a Mac, iPod, iPhone or other Appleware when you can buy the same thing at Ala Moana / Kahala and not have to pay for parking... and then there is always online at www.apple.com.I'm still here. Are you?

Re: Apple Store Waikiki
I highly doubt Apple would increase pricing... they have strict pricing across the board on their products for all retailers. Even though the rent is higher, Apple has the highest sales per square foot in all of retail.
It's a high traffic area though, i doubt many locals would go to that store specifically unless they live in Waikiki.... same goes for the other retailers...
i found it odd that there were so many of the same stores in Waikiki as well as Ala Moana, but i'm sure it's working...

Originally posted by scrivener View PostBesides the high rent, the inconvenience to local customers, the proximity to Kahala and Ala Moana, and the huge population in Waikiki of visitors coming from places where there are no Apple stores (which nobody mentioned, but I think is worth considering) is the fact that an Apple store is not just a retailer or a service center, but also a gigantic, happy advertisement for Apple products. This is the kind of thing other computer manufacturers just can't get, but a cool-looking store with that famous apple logo does a lot for people's consciousnesses. I think Waikiki is a great spot for an Apple store for this reason alone.
