  • Web Publishing

    Aloha,
I'm a PC , and I'm looking at a new computer which will come w/Vista. I now have XP.
I'm using MicroSoft Front Page to manage my hiking web page:

    http://www.waianaecrider.com/Hikes/Hikes.htm

Is is from the 2001 version of MicroSoft Office Pro. I'm gonna have to replace the whole package I guess.

Can anyone recommend a replacement for Front Page?

    Mahalo,
    Wai`anae Steve

I too have been using Front Page. Microsoft no longer sells it but has a new program call Express Web 2. if you have the 2001 version of Front Page like I do, you can just get the "upgrade" instead of a full version. I looked at a trial and it seems like just a little more advanced version of Front Page. Here is a link to download the demo:

I've also used Dreamweaver but switched to Front Page a couple years ago because it was just easier to upload changes with Front Page and I got lazy

      Either one is good.

I used to be hooked on Dreamweaver but can actually get away with just using Notepad and some HTML tutorials.

        Good luck!

Try SeaMonkey, a free all-in-one Internet suite that includes a browser, email, newsreader, and chat. But more to the point for your needs, it also includes Composer, a nifty HTML editor.

Like Firefox, SeaMonkey (FireFox... SeaMonkey... get it?) is based on Mozilla. But it reminds me more of the old Netscape Communicator Suite.

                SeaMonkey's Composer is WYSIWYG.

Yup, it's similar to Frontpage, you can work in code view, WYSIWYG view, or split screen. But I'm like you, I prefer WYSIWYG...

You don't need to get the latest version. Try find an older version or even before you buy anything try download a trial version and see if it's what you need/want.

One other thought......if you are just creating a content site you can try any of the free content management systems already available. I'd suggest Joomla. They also have very good support in the Joomla forums. Then you don't have to do much coding yourself......it's all there for you.

Thanks, I have a pretty "simple" site on space I'm buying from Yahoo. Here is a link to see what I've been doing. Nothing special at all.

I think you can do a lot more than that using a simple platform such as Wordpress or Blogger. Give it a try! You'll be amazed how easy and fun it is.
