i thought i knew what i'd get for her (an acer from costco); price is great (around $530), 4 gigs ram, 320 gigs of hard drive space, wireless, windows 7, etc. but thankfully, i went to amazon's site to check on a similar acer (basic model the same but the last 4 digits were different) and there were three strikes against it: faulty keyboard, slow wireless connection and poor customer support (based on customer reviews).
she's not a gamer but she does want a solid laptop; not for carrying around; she's got a netbook for that; wants to use it as her 'desktop'. (her current lenovo is a couple of years old now) basically uses it for word processing, web surfing, picture viewing/editing, watching videos/movies.
costco has a bunch of HPs but there was an article online recently about how HP is the most likely laptop brand to run into problems; there was a dell and one toshiba at costco tho it doesn't have to be limited to what costco sells.
dependability is the most important factor. price? maybe up to $800.
you guys have consistently provided great ideas in the past and i'm sure your suggestions regarding this request will be just as helpful.
thanks
