  • ?Encrypted files/password

In using WinRar I've forgotten my password to open encrypted music files, and seems I'm SOL without it.
Is there any way to retrieve it, or would I have to delete the whole program, reinstall it, and grab a new p-word?
And would doing that jeopardize my collection of files that are stored on my laptop?

I would imagine that you can't open any of your encrypted files without the original password. I wouldn't expect uninstall/reinstall WinRAR to accomplish anything. (If it did, it would be the world's worse file protection system.)

Doing a Google for 'WinRar password recovery" shows some promising options. Just avoid the malware.

It's kinda sketchy deal with those recoverers, what do you think about this way? www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEoyGxPXm7w

Hard to say. You'll have to Google around to see what the reports are.

You might try encrypting some new files. In the process of dreaming up a new password, you might remember the thought process you used when you created the last one.

I went thru the few basic variations, but what process do I go thru to encrypt new files. BTW, this is all Greek to me.

I have WinRAR, but I don't remember using it. Since you encrypted your files to begin with, I'd assume you know how to do some more.

At this point I think Google is your best friend. That's where I've found the info thus far.
