  • Re: Hawaiian Telcom DSL

Just got a follow-up call from Hawaiian Tel. Apparently they're doing some stuff right now. Tested while I was on the phone and got around 900kbps.

And now I'm into megabit territory again...not yet totally up to speed, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

    TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3a
    click START to begin
    Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
    running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 387.74Kb/s
    running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 1.00Mb/s
Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem
Information: Other network traffic is congesting the link
    click START to re-test

Hey Patrick, I think DSLReports' mapping is messed up. If it really were in Waipahu, the CO's address would have a 94- street # prefix. Yours has a 91-.

This map puts it right in the heart of Kapolei.

Anyone else in the Lihue area experiencing slow speeds? I just got off the phone with a techie and he said they're working on it. Expect it to be resolved this week for Lihue. Here's my most recent test:

        TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3a
        click START to begin
        Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
        running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 142.82Kb/s
        running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 207.87kb/s
Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem
Information: Other network traffic is congesting the link

        click START to re-test

Also...I found a Westell 2200 laying around my house. Would this be any better than the 2100?

Wow apparently you are right Keith H. But why the heck am I getting suck slow speeds if I live a couple blocks down from this CO? This is driving me nuts.
Konaguy, the person who you referred to me has not contacted me yet. Hopfully she will soon. (please god..)

            From the Seattle server:

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-07-16 20:49:17 EST:
            761 / 369
            Your download speed : 761 kbps or 95.2 KB/sec.
That is 50% worse than an average user on hawaiiantel.net

            Your upload speed : 369 kbps or 46.1 KB/sec.
That is 25.4% worse than an average user on hawaiiantel.net

I sure wonder what's going on. I suppose I could call them again, but I really don't like sitting on hold for 1/2 hour.

Miserable service I/we are getting from these guys.

I called Hawaiian Telcom and they picked up on the first ring. Techie named Anthony was very helpful, explained that it was an upgrade that affects only some customers. They can't tell who is affected unless the customer calls. Said he'll check on the settings for my phone number, called back in 3 minutes, and this is what I got:

              TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3a
              click START to begin
              Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
              running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 387.59Kb/s
              running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 1.27Mb/s
Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem
Information: The receive buffer should be 139.749755859375 Kbytes to maximize throughput

              click START to re-test

If you're talking to me, yeah I called 643-4375. Went through the proper menus and the techie picked up on the first ring.

Yeah, I was directing that to you, Mike, sorry.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

It looks like whatever the problem is HawTel is working on it. I suspect it
had something to do with the recent Sprint issues, just my gut feeling.
I would call up HawTel @ 643-4375 and get a trouble ticket started.
Please don't wait for my contact to call you.

I would call @ 643-4375 and insist upon getting a trouble ticket. There was
another poster a couple posts back that mentioned that the tech told him
that anyone having speed problems should call up HawTel.

As for the new bandwidth should be coming online later this week.
Their new supplier has run into some snags, hence the delays.
