  • Windows problem unable to get to https sites

Has anyone experienced this where you get a page not found in both IE and Mozilla when going to pages that are secure. Ex. I couldn't get to gmail, hotmail, mail.yahoo.com, the verizon customer support page.

    What caused it?

What did you do to solve it?

    I restored the whole OS.

    This was very frustrating.

I've used computers for awhile, I've never had that problem before. Did it
happen with the latest IE, Firefox ? Did you have security protocols enabled ?
Did you have any adblocking or host file blocking enabled ? Did you have
    a proxy server enabled ?

      Yes I tried both browsers.
I did turn off the Windows firewall.
I did restore everything to the defaults.

I am just curious if this is a virus or Windows problem.

Eh OP, you stay on another local website? Someone there is having the exact same problem as you.
How'd I get so white and nerdy?

Maybe they closed down port 443 on you. Talk to your ISP.

            1. Clear out your cookies
            2. Clear out your cache (both under internet options)
            3. Defrag your computer

If that doesnt work....try Spyware Doctor it will find things that will surprise you.

If that doesn't work....Find a file off the internet called WinsockXPFix.exe
from Explicit Software Solutions. that will reinstall/fix your TCP/IP

              What will defragging do?

Anyway, try the top three spyware scanners: spybot search and destroy, lavasoft's adaware, and MS's Antispyware.

And jkpescador if you want, then I can come over and try to fix it myself (but time is now a factor)

puts your files back in order and to one side of the drive....because windows is stupid by dumping files anywhere it can.....

                  I did the first two.
Funny how it says it cleared but you could still see them.

Different software would bring up different things.
Spybot wouldn't work cause it couldn't update itself.
Adaware couldn't update either. Found some things.
AVG Free worked and found some trojans and I deleted them.
XPCleaner found somethings that it cleaned out.
Running the software in Safe mode brought up different messages too.

I'll keep all this in mind. I reinstalled the OS. Ugh.
