I'm still curious why the anti-smokers haven't clamored for tobacco to be illegal.

People think that the PNW is such a liberal place, but muse over this: the number of strip joints is tightly controlled in King County (like I think there are only 4 of them within the county limits).

Meanwhile, Portland has (one of?) the highest number of strip clubs per capita in the country.

It's funny how similar and yet how different WA and OR are.

Yeah, and I bet patrons can smoke cigarettes AND drink alcohol in those dens of inequity in Portland, too, unlike up here! The "vote no" folks did bring up the large number of strip joints that existed in the Portland area and the fact that your crime rate hadn't soared because of it. The "pro-4 ft rule" people here proclaimed that if the voters didn't approve the measure, our crime rate would go up dramatically...NOT!

I'am going to smoke where the owner will let me. It is their place, if you don't like it then don't go there. Same like a person's home or car. I respect private property rights, some "liberials" think that they and the government own everywhere - insulting.

The tree lighting was certainly jolly this evening though. Despite having to dodge smokers every few minutes

If it's your home i"ll go outside out of respect. However it is not the government's business. Let the owner deside. That's called freedom.

I was at my friend's home for thanksgiving. She does not allow smoking inside. I am cool with that. On the lanai there is a comfortable place for smoking friends to hang out. Nice seats and nice view and I can bring drinks and food -socialise and hang out. I can live with that. Not if big Gov. has anything to say about it.

When the door to the lanai is closed, no smoke can get in. 20 ft not needed .

In the old country, Germany - we put real candles on the tree. Has to be a fresh tree. Put the lighter on it and see if it will burn. Try to angle the candles so there is no burnable material above them. You have to monitor it. It looks so majectic - beautiful and old world. Kids love it. Just leave a smoke for santa, you know it has to have been a high pressure nite.
