breakfast the day before yesterday was from biscuits cafe on sandy boulevard in portland.

eric had the fresh corned beef hash with hash browns and biscuits (can't not order the biscuits if you're someplace called "biscuits," right?). the corned beef hash was 80% fresh corned beef and 20% red potato. it was the best corned beef hash we'd ever had anywhere. i ordered the red potatoes with the country benedict: buttermilk biscuit, sausage patty, poached egg, country gravy all over. mah gott--i wish someone would make country gravy just as good as biscuit's in hawaii.

when we took the pics, our server looked askance at us. i explained we were from honolulu and no one back home serves up breakfast like this. it turned out our server had just come back from visiting maui in september, and she wanted us to take her back home with us in a box. she absolutely adored hawaii and couldn't wait to visit again. she also mentioned a friend of hers had recently moved from portland to honolulu and was thinking of opening up a breakfast joint like biscuits. if so, we'll be the first in line!

(pics below, L-R: eric's beefalicious corned beef hash & hash browns; my country benedict; close up of a bite of the benedict showing the glorious biscuit, sausage, perfectly poached egg & delish blankey of country gravy. cheee huuuu!)
