I consider it a failing on my part. But also on an ENTIRE CULTURE'S part!

A working lunch brought in from Kakaako Kitchen:
A portabello mushroom burger...topped with a mound of crumbled blue cheese...lettuce...sliced tomato...a special mustard spread...on a taro bun.

          O M G!!! Heaven!

What a Filipino thread back there! But I think this should be a separate thread.

I've never liked Filipino food ... and I feel guilty about that, because I think it's my fault for not trying. The first time I remember eating Filipino food was at a wedding a long, long time ago. It was extremely greasy, and cold, and inedible. It took me a long time to try it again. And it still didn't satisfy. When Golden Coin opened at the Walmart superblock, it was one of the first places I tired. I was so turned off by the service, I never went back. The only thing Filipino I ever liked was lumpia (but who doesn't like lumpia?).

I'm Okinawan, but 20%-30% of my relatives are Filipino, so I am not a stranger to this culture. I may be wrong, but I think in Hawaii, Filipino cuisine is either very good or very bad ... and I've only had the very bad.

Freshly sliced prime rib sandwich, with caramelized onions & garlic/bleu-cheese spread, on a toasted ciabatta roll (from Simon's in downtown Seattle); and Dr. Pepper. Also the company of the lovely Alpha Female.

Today's lunch was a plate from Panda Express: fried rice, orange chicken and mandarin chicken. The hubby and I shared it and then shared a Cinnabon for dessert!

There's a big pot of home-made chicken and noodle soup simmering on the stove. With carrot, onion, leek, roasted leftover chicken, garlic, herbs, and a little piece of ginger in it. There's a fresh baguette and some sweet butter waiting on the table.
