Peter O'Toole the Brit actor took the part of Fr, Damien. In Hawaii.
My friend did hair and make-up.
The movie is well worth seeing

It was beautiful. And just as moving, for me, was knowing that several people I know were there to witness it.

Been down to Kaluapapa twice about 20 years ago or so, met some of the lovely citizens there on said visits and will never forget their Aloha and
welcome for us when we went down there. I have chills and tears when
I think of them and St. Damien. Chokes me up.

The Kalaupapa/Damien story is THE story in Hawaii's incredible centurys old history, I feel. If there is only one story to be familiar with, this is it. There is so much ground covered in these near 100 years, all of it incredibly interesting/heartbreaking juxtaposed with the intensely beautiful landscape, that few international topics can match it.

Can it be verified that in the early day's of the refuge, because the disease was much more ravenous with the children, that they were killed to keep the infestation rate lower? Killed together in cages tossed into the ocean as the parents were forced to watch from shore?
