      are they "Ill tempered" big ants? All the rain does make the rain trap water system work though.There isn't so many cars/industry to palute the rainwater right?Residents don't need to add chlorine or anything?Just filter for solids from tank/pump ect?
      The thought of bathing,drinking and watering the garden with rainwater sounds so kewl!

        This was back in the mid-70's when I was a student at UH Hilo but one day I saw three of these ants haul off a dead cockroach.

          Catchment water should be treated with chlorine as well as run through a sediment filter and a UV filter before even thinking about drinking it. Fecal bacteria and other nasty microscopic critters from bird droppings, rat droppings, gecko droppings are often present in even the best-maintained catchment systems. In addition, assorted pesticides can often be found in catchment water. As for watering the garden with catchment water, it's often unneccesary because the rainwater that doesn't go into your catchment tank is going to water your garden.

            ha ha watering the garden <----Southern Cali mentality if you turn off the sprinklers it all turns back into a desert.
