  • RIP, Dewayne McKinney

This man's story during his short 47 years goes from sad to inspirational and back to sad. The links within this story are also interesting reads.

McKinney loved Hawaii so much that he kept pictures of the islands on his cell wall. He eventually fulfilled his dream of moving here. Sounds like an incarcerated man's version of "The Secret".

McKinney took the proverbial lemons and made lemonade...big time, becoming a multimillionaire in a very short time frame by investing the money he received from a lawsuit resulting from his wrongful guilty conviction.

While I'd not heard of him prior to his untimely death, he's someone I would've really liked to meet.

    RIP, Dewayne...

Remarkable story indeed. I had read about him in a long profile in the LAT
a couple years ago and always wondered if I'd run across him doing his
rounds at an ATM. Not that I use ATM's but I thought maybe I'd see him.
What a kind and forgiving soul he was after all that pain and mistaken
    conviction. RIP kind soul.

When I had heard about his accident, I wondered what millionaire is on a moped at that hour. It was interesting to read about what a remarkable person Mr. McKinney was. RIP is right. He looked like a very personable guy. What a loss.
