Re: Compliments you wish you never got
My MIL insists that I look 17. I'm 28. I know I look young for my age- probably about 23 or so. I've looked 23 for the last 8 years. But really- 17? Come on, now. After seeing the way 17 year olds around here act and dress, that is NOT a compliment in any way. I'm an adult. At least give me that acknowledgement. I've earned it, dammit!
Can't think of anything creative this time

Re: Compliments you wish you never got
Similar to Menehune Man's post--had a boss who would compliment the entire staff (I worked in a smallish dental office), then say "BUT...". We got so we'd interrupt him with a chorus of "BUT" when he started in!
My favorite, though, was at age 13, from a so-called "well-meaning" nurse in a doctor's office (who, in reality, was a mean witch)--"You'd be SO pretty if you'd just lose some weight". I was a little overweight then, but not much, at all, and certainly not obese...and so what if I was, if I was healthy?! As for being pretty--who could feel pretty after a "compliment" like that?!
I felt like telling her I could diet, but she was ugly as sin and could do nothing about it...but my mama raised me to be polite.
