Woo hoo. We've got the first named tropical storm of the season that might reach the islands -- Tropical Storm Cosme.
Alvin and Barbara came and went in late May / early June without really leaving the Mexican coastline... but it looks like Cosme might be approaching the Big Island in a week or so.
Of course, it's rare that an Eastern North Pacific storm actually gets as far as the Hawaiian Islands. Both of the damaging hurricanes of the last 40 years, Iwa and Iniki, were Central North Pacific storms. But it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out on this one anyway.
