  • Safety check for vintage vehicle?

Anybody have good recommendations for places where I can take my 1965 VW Bus for a safety check? My Bus is overdue, but I don't want to take it to the local gas station.

I'm afraid they won't be familiar with all the missing safety equipment, like shoulder straps, reverse lights, windshield washers, etc. (None of that stuff came on the original car and is grandfathered in.)

Anyway, if you know of any safety check stations which have personnel familiar with vintage cars, please let me know.

(Conversely, if you want to warn me away from certain places, that info is welcome, too.)

Try the Shell Station on the corner of King and Houghtailing, just makai of Honolulu Ford. The owner is Marshall Kaichi and I'm almost certain he knows about 1965 vehicles.

Marshall does good work, and he communicates well. I'm not sure about his prices, but I decided some time ago that whatever he was charging me for repairs was worth it. The entire joint is operated well.

                  I go there too.

Full Service is a complete check like it was in the the old days. From checking under the hood, tires, cleaning windows and friendly service. Of course putting gasoline too.
