  • McGarrett's Merc Monterey

    One interesting story - http://www.mjq.net/fiveo/50mercury.htm

And another, mine - About 1979, I'd been living on a 160' schooner for years and we'd moved it to Pier 6 in Honolulu Harbor, across from the Oceania floating Chinese restaurant. As I worked one morning and watched film crews set up on Tommy Akana's 'Royal Prince' yacht, into the parking lot come's the Mercury as it angles over to me, and out steps Jack Lord looking like a 5-0 God all ready for the shoot, smiling and putting out his hand, which he was usually adverse to doing, and getting up a short conversation about boats before going off to his job.
    My most significant 'McGarrett moment'.

A fun one - heard he once got all bussup from smelling ciggy smoke in that car, and had the entire interior ripped out and replaced!

Ron, if you're going to share an informative article with other people, then why don't you read it carefully first before naming your thread?

Jack Lord never drove a Mercury Monterey on Hawaii Five-0. Ford always gave him the fanciest and top-of-the-line Mercury models whenever he needed a new car for the show. That's why they gave him the '68 Park Lane and the '74 Marquis Brougham, which were the flagship Merc vehicles for each of those years, respectively.

The other Five-O cops were given "cheaper" sedans,.... usually Ford LTDs.

The villains/crime bosses were usually given Lincolns. Some had Caddys.

My daughter used to visit the set sometimes when they were filming on a weekend. She was about 3-4 yr. old and was introduced to Jack Lord one day. From that day on, whenever we would see him, he would always say hello direct to her. He was very kind to a little girl and she thought "McGarrett" was her best friend. I was very impressed with him.

Well, pants me daily and paddle my cheekies with a Marquis' floor mat.
That's what I get for reading about the Monterey's before posting.
Sure hope I can be forgiven someday..., I guess it's a good thing ol' Jack isn't around.

I should have said "my daughter & I" - don't want anyone to think that I just sent her off by herself.

I don't know if Jack Lord would have been upset over someone mistaking his car for a lower trim model. That would be rather petty.
