Yep me too! I got one left in KSBE's Keaau campus and two elementary aged kids in two different charter schools here on the Big Island. The learning environment is so much better in these kinds of public schools than standard cookie-cutter DOE public schools. At my kid's two charter schools, I know both directors as friends (equivalent to the principle). When I have a problem with the school, a quick phone call at their home resolves any issues.
And when one kid did bring in drugs, she was expelled for the year. The DOE has to understand that funding these kinds of schools are so much more efficient (economically and aptitude wise) than the current way they're managing standard DOE public schools. But it comes down to control, and that's something the BOE doesn't want to give up.
