That's not right at all Auntie and I'm sorry you had to experience it, but I'm happy that you're able to put it behind you and keep on moving.

              I will..but I won't go back.

              Here's my story:

I've never been ashamed of being Bi-Polar.

              Not even now.

I started last week Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008.

Everyday I would go to work early.

The door to the office would be locked. I would have to wait till one of my co-workers arrived. In the meantime, I would walk around the campus or go to see my supervisor at her office to check what she wanted me to do for the day. Nothing was scheduled. It was like that every day. I was a wanderer. Put into whatever meetings that I was permitted, take part in Hula, go on scheduled outings with clients as directed by my supervisor. Most of the times, I was in the office reading books, rules and regulations. While my co-workers did their duties. Most of the times they would be playing solitaire, crocheting, eating snacks, cookies and walauing. Did they swear? They shua did. It was our little place away from the drama which existed up the hill. LOL

I sat in a meeting and gave my opinion that there should be a "Lock Down." I was told to listen and observe. I felt if I made a mistake, the person should have come to me directly. After all, I am fifty-two years old.

Yeah, I observed and listened and asked questions. I'm from the old skool. I feel obligated and in being productive for my pay. I don't take advantage of anyone or any company especially when it comes to money. It's not right.

And I observed property which belonged to clients being taken down to be distributed to others. It was discussed openly by my co-workers too. However, they're too afraid to say anything.

I learned a lot being there for the short time. Pretty faces ~ Dey all moa Crazy den Me!

The whole campus is in shambles. The Admin area is filthy. I asked my supervisor permission to clean and scrub the woman's bathroom. I asked maintenance for plastic bags. He said he'll clean the bathroom. He did. I finally got a key for the office yesterday after being screamed at by one of the workers in Admin. Well, she was actually screaming at maintenance with me next to him.

When I got hired, I was told it was like an "Ohana." No way. It is a place of Drama and Cut Throats. Very Territorial. A place where they don't deserve their pay. I observed and I listened.

Yeah. I'm Bi-polar. And I was ready to work, be dedicated and give my all.

Excuses of making me resign cause I'm Bipolar is so lame.

Swearing? Plezzzzzzzzz. Take a reality check and put a recorder in the offices you'll be surprise. I wasn't allowed to face my accusers. It doesn't matter. I don't want to go back there.

              It's their loss.

I'm sending this entry to National Headquarters.

              Love and Aloha,

              Auntie Lynn

              P.S. Mahalo TutuSue!!

                    Re: Mental Illness

keep in mind that the organization you worked for gets its "clients" either through the courts or some other government funded programs. They have a lot to lose if you make complaints. I doubt if they will want bad publicity. I hope you pursue this issue. Even if they weren't legally wrong in firing you, they are morally & ethically wrong. I think they are legally wrong but I'm not a lawyer.

Sorry Auntie about your job loss, but you can take pride in having put forth the effort to GET the job, and you can take pride in not hiding your head under the covers after the bad news. If anyone knows how to move on and seek better for themselves and their family, it is you.

It's hard to go moemoe. I'm a Christian. I forgive them. However, I need to pursue this not only for me but to help future victims.

                            BINGO!!

                            Subchapter 9 (Disability Discrimination)

§12-46-190 Prohibited medical examinations and inquiries. (a) Except as permitted by section 12-46-191, it is unlawful for an employer or other covered entity to:

                            (1) Conduct a medical examination of an applicant; or

                            (2) Make inquiries as to whether an applicant is a person with a disability or as to the nature or severity of such disability.

Over coffee this morning, PK asked me more questions. I told him the Director had sat with me at lunch. She asked me how I was doing and what do I like to do in my spare time. So I told her about KauKau Wagon and The Slippah Project. Wrong. heheheh If she already knew about me being Bi-Polar, she shua as hell didn't believe me. She must have think I was 100% DELUSIONAL and needed to be escorted off the premises.

We laughed. My supervisor wanted me to attend NA and AA Meetings for myself. She called me into her office and asked me if I was Bi-polar. She asked what kind of medications I took and who was my doctor. She then told me she didn't think I was capable of handling the job due to my illness. She covered herself by saying if I felt I didn't feel comfortable to let her know right away. Well, I didn't have a chance...when I went back to my office, within thirty minutes, the HR Person came to get me.

I don't drink nor smoke anymore by my choice. If I drink...I die. They wanted to control me and I wouldn't budge.

The violation: I swore in front of a two co-workers and a client. I didn't. I asked to confront my accusers. I was denied. I knew they were lying. It didn't matter. Petty accusations coming from ex-cons and former substance abuse users means nothing to me. They got major issues.

I think you should take her up on her offer.

Write a letter stating that you feel you were wrongfully dismissed and very carefully state why you believe this is so.

Be extremely professional about the letter. Go over it with a fine toothed comb to make sure your spelling and phrasing is correct and as neutral as possible.

Mail the letter (saving a copy for your records) with a signature return receipt acknowledgment request in the name of your supervisor...or whoever is above that person if possible.

Take your postal cash receipt and staple it to your copy of the letter. When you get the returned signed receipt coupon back saying they got the letter staple that to your copy too.

This will be a form of official record of complaint for you to start with anyways.
