Iwa or the aftermath of Iwa effectted Oahu more than Iniki did to Oahu. Rolling backouts for at least a week or more, but at least stores were still open during that time.

And to be respectfully honest with you...it's none of your effin' business what's in them, nor do I want to take the time to make a list for you. I take care of myself without ramming my ideas down others throats. I sure wish you'd do the same. Good-bye...so long...IGNORE!
Awww...how sad is dat!? You no have to tell me what is in yours...just tell me what the phone book says, den.

Don't assume that Hawaii's Civil Defense or any other location's disaster management organizaton are run by bunch of idiots. Just because one place didn't do it right that doesn't mean everyone else will make the same mistakes.
Please....don't be so defensive. I'm not assuming anything...except that people in a panic will create chaos. It's not only locals, that will be stuck, should a pandemic pass by...and not all tourists will be ready to live the Aloha Spirit way.

I'm not telling anyone what they ought to do...just trying to make people aware of what may happen, and to get people to try to start thinking about it.

PS 3 to 5 days may be enough for a hurricane, but that's way less than even the US government suggests, for pandemic planning.

And I agree with Tutu, and I've said it before: Susie might want to find a more appropriate forum. Maybe alt.paranoid.schizophrenics or alt.little.boy.who.cried.wolf or something.
I'm quite pleased that, at least, you are thinking about the ramifications of this. An no forget...the wolf DID come, in the end.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again....I hope that I am, in fact, lolo...I'd rather be lolo, than right. I'd rather that you all teased me, til the end of my days, than really have a pandemic happen.

Maybe you folks are 'lucky', because you can remember disasters, and think about how to deal with them....like the hurricane ones.

Please....think a bit more deeply...imagine a disaster, where the emergency services are overwhelmed, and won't be there, to help. Or have no supplies to help with.

Susie, I know you mean well. But I tell you again that you're preaching to the choir here. We live in a hurricane zone. We've been slammed by tsunami that have killed thousands and wreaked massive damage. You're telling us to "start thinking about it" as if we were small children who have never even considered the possibilities of a catastrophe. By doing so you kind of imply that we're all mental midgets here, and I think that some or many of us feel it's insulting.
              Comprende?
              .
              .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

It's not something I'd lose sleep over. I have other, more pressing issues to worry about.

This is actually the first time I've read this thread and I'm so glad that I've stayed away. I'm surprised this is still open.

No one's being defensive at all, Susie. It's just that your tone and refusal to let this issue go dead just rub people the wrong way. I know it did for me, and it's my first time in this discussion.

I think it's safe to say that should disaster hit, we know what's best for our family. Thank you, but you need not worry about what's best for me. You speak about doing us a community service, but you're not really doing ANYONE any service right now.

Where's that picture of the dead horse when you need it?

That is all. Drive through now.

Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
