Besides using it for recreational purposes and as a pain eliminator and nausea reducer, Scripps Institute just published a study which shows that the active ingredient in pakalolo, THC, may actually help moderate the devastation people suffer from Alzheimer's disease.
Obviously, more studies have to be done before scientists are comfortable saying definitively that THC will stave off Alzheimer's, but anything that will spare people from this insidious, terminal disease would be a public health bonus. There are lots of older people in Hawaii right now who suffer from various stages of this disease, and many families are being stressed out caring for their kupuna who have been afflicted.
If more studies show the same result as this Scripps study, all of us aging "Flower children" will have another reason to stay on the weed!
