"Talented acting family" is the understatement of the year! Any discussion of Hollywood royalty would be remiss without a mention of the Carradines (along with the Fondas and Barrymores). IMHO, John Carradine (David's father) was one of the greatest character actors ever. And I believe he was also one of the most prolific, appearing in 340 films and TV shows, if IMDB's listing is accurate. (Other folks have put the total at over 400, including his uncredited appearances.)

I'm still in a state of disbelief that David Carradine is dead.

Re: David Carradine found dead in Thailand

I loved the "Kung Fu" tv show as a kid and watched it faithfully. He'd always come breezin' into town, all unassuming and spacey. Invariably there'd be some group of jerks who had assumed control and were up to no good. He'd end up giving 'em a good schoolin' every time.

I remember in the early 70's, when Rolling Stone was still in newsprint, he said he'd taken over 500 acid trips. He drove a Jaguar with a vanity plate that said 'Fool'. He said he was painfully shy.

Around the mid 70's he and his band appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and played a song called "The Cosmic Laughter". I've searched high and low on the net over the last few years trying to dig it up, but I can't find it.

The Hon. Advertiser reported today that he had two ropes - one around his neck and the other around his genitals - and that the two ropes were connected. Very strange, it doesn't sound so much like suicide with those details included.

Yeah, it pretty much goes back to Adri's post (#10):

At this point, it seems that there's a strong possibility the cause of death will be ruled "accidental."

I didn't know what they were talking about, so I had to Google the scenario. I found out how naive I am!

The topic was once discussed in Cecil Adams' column, "The Straignt Dope," which runs in the Honolulu Weekly.
Just in case anyone is still wondering what might be involved in "the scenario," Adams' straightforward explanation can be found here.

Re: David Carradine found dead in Thailand

This story is getting strange. His character was so clean and naive on Kung Fu. Thailand has strict drug laws. So, a person might try to think of something so desperate to get some kind of high. But, that's an embarrassing way to go. I remember there was a skit about a business that would get rid of your porn after you die, so that your relatives won't know about it.

Not a great way to go from hearing the stories on Mr. Cararadine's passsing.
If it was his thing though I am not thrilled or a fan of practicing that fetish is basically a death wish regardless if you do it w/ another person present.
On a postive note, I did watch KUNG FU on KITV eons ago during a kid. R.I.P.

I am curious what was the name of the movie that he was supposed doing while in Thailand. His IMDB profile had several WHILE IN PRODUCTION so I had no clue which one it was.

It was called "Stretch," according to multiple websites (including KGMB's).

That's the sign of a good actor, which David Carradine was. Being able to bring to life characters like Kwai Chang Caine. But in his private life, Carradine was very different from his on-screen alter ego. One obvious example: Carradine was a chain smoker. Caine never touched that stuff.

If Carradine, indeed, died in the act of autoerotic asphyxiation that went too far, he wouldn't be the first. It is like playing Russian roulette.

Autoerotic asphyxiation can be deadly, whether it is carried out alone or with a partner. So investigating authorities need to make sure no other person was involved. If Carradine invited a hooker into his room, there obviously wouldn't be any signs of forced entry. And if he died in some kind of hanky-panky that went awry, it wouldn't be surprising for the partner to take off and leave. People involved in similar scenarios have sometimes been investigated for murder charges.

I heard one report that his hands were tied behind him? I think it makes a difference if his hands were tied in the front or in the back?
