Re: What would you do if you met someone famous?
Years and years ago when I was in college I worked security at a civic auditorium in Florida (looked just like the NBC). Since I was the least "star struck" of the crew I usually ended up working with the talent. In 3 years of working with rock stars, wrestlers, concert musicians, TV preachers, & Olympic Ice Skaters I was only struck by one.
I don't remember her name, but she had just competed in the Winter Olympics women's ice skating finals. She was predicted to be the easy winner, but in the end finished a disappointing 3rd (Bronze). Since she fell short of the gold medal predictions, she took a gig skating with one of the lower rung shows. Now these skating shows are cast with mostly young skaters, men & women no older than 22-24. With so many young folks travleing together in close ranks, there was lots of comradery & partying among the cast. I was asked repeteadly where the local "hot spots" were that week. They all seemed to be having the time of thier lives except for the Olympic Skater. She was shunned by everyone. I personally saw her snubbed by cast on several occasions. Well, the auditourium is a pretty wide open building, and we had a small family of cats that lived in the rafters, corners, and dark places. One day I saw the Oylmpic Skater with a kitten in her lap, gently stroking it's back. She was beaming. This was the first sign of happiness I'd seen all week (and trust me, by the end of the run we had all seen plenty of each other). With all the expectations she had, and the opportunity to be with so many other young people like herself...the only thing working out for her besides her skating was being able to cuddle with this kitten. In a word, sad.
I still remember this 20+ years later...
BTW Andre the Giant was UNREAL big (his butt was as high as my shoulders), Barbra Mandrell couldn't have been more than 4' 6" tall, Natalie Cole must have been 6' 2", Ted Nugent gave the guards all of the beer from catering, Willie Nelson was a every bit the gentleman (and totally baked), and Jimmy Buffett was the most gracious musician I ever saw when it came to the meet & greets.
