  • Pua Olena - Lim Family

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=k0k3jFoQf0w

I'm trying to find out the meaning of the words.

The song is often called "The flower song." Make sense. Pua = Flower. Olena is not clear. Olena is the same as Lena = yellow. Olena is also a small mountain tree on Kauai (Coprosma waimeae). Make sense, cause the Lim family is from Kauai.

So my question is, which is it? What was the intent of the Lim family when the wrote the song? Did they mean "Yellow Flower" or "Flower on the Olena tree"?

The lyrics of the song talk about the beauty of the flower. Flowers on the Olena tree is not that good looking. Or is the song just about a regular yellow flower?

Don't know who Jimmy Kaholokula is to the Lim Family, but according to the above link, it's he who wrote the song. But next time I see Auntie Leialoha I'll be sure to ask her.
    Tessie, "Nuf Ced" McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only
