  • Cecilio Rodriguez - C & K

Cecilio Rodriguez was born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA. He already had a band. He was paired with Henry Kapono because of thier unique similar style, etc, etc. The rest is history.

I know there are "Hawaiians" born and raised on the mainland. More so now that 30+ years ago.

I'm wondering if Cecilio Rodriguez had any connection to Hawaii prior to C & K? Did he learned, accept, adopted the "Hawaiian lifestyle" that his music portrayed? Or was the "Hawaiian part" all Henry Kapono?

Just trying to understand music history.

    what "Hawaiian" part?

C&K created contemporary music. The Hawaiianness of it is that there was a kanaka in the duo, and that their music was big in Hawaii.

      E Pua'i e,

      Ninau: What is Hawaiian music?
Pane: Any music of or about these beautiful islands.

That's what I think because those two words could be classified as a broad category of music that can be broken down into more specific ones.
