  • 2008 Hoku finalists announced

The final nominees (including HT's own Jdub) were announced today:
The 2008 Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominations were announced today, with newcomers Hoku Zuttermeister and Maui's Napua Grieg leading the pack with eight and seven nominations, respectively.
Both vocalists are competing for album of the year and most promising artist of the year.
For album of the year, Zuttermeister's "'Aina Kupuna" and Grieg's "Pihana" are up against Raiatea Helm's "Hawaiian Blossom," Barefoot Natives' "SlackKey Circus" and The Hawaian Music Hall of Fame production "Na Lani 'Eha."
Other multiple nominees include Nathan Aweau and Helm, both with five nominations.
Aweau is last year's winner for best male vocalist and is again vying for that award, as well as the award for Hawaiian album of the year.
The Hawaii Academy of Recording Art's 31st annual competition is scheduled to take place June 17 at the Hawaii Convention Center.
    (...)
Hard to think of Hoku Zuttermeister as a "newcomer" given how long he's been around and the incredible list of folks he's performed and toured with. He'll be impossible to beat in any category in which he's nominated.

    Threep!

Here's hoping for 3 year's in a row by Daniel Ho for his live Slack Key Festival CDs, and special kudos to him for having the brains and guts to include a steel guitar cut on these albums, each one played by the State's sweetest steeler - Bobby Ingano.

        Re: 2008 Hoku finalists announced

Thanks for posting these last night, LN - I saw them in time to put together some sets for our radio shows today (and to call Cindy Combs to tell her she's a nominee - she played here last night, along with S+S - Stephen Inglis + Shawn Livingston Moseley).
