Re: Anyone else disappointed with some local music?
[rant]I welcome Jawaiian's presence in music, since no genre is born without any influence from other genres--rock came from blues, hip-hop came from jazz and funk, etc. I already mentioned how I can't stand the abundance of covers in mainstream local music, but I noticed a new trend on OC-16 and in the Sassy Magazines I get at work: local "hip-hop" artists who purvey subcultures of "pimp," "bling-bling," gangsta, and conspicuous consumption.
I mean come on...no kids in Hawaii can say they grew up with lives that are similar to what they're trying to copy from MTV and BET. I see these wannabe rap videos on OC-16 and it just makes me smh.[/rant]
