One is long and one is short, One is thin and one is stout.
In the morning when they wake, Only one's breakfast can I make.
One dances and knows how many squares hopscotch ought to have.
One goes wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, ha ha, wah wah.
One won't eat anything much, I guess she lives on air and sun and noodles.

I'm a man who's rich in daughters, And if by some wild chance I get rich in money, Like say another two thou a year or even one thou a year, I'm gonna look in to havin' some more daughters.

I just listened to that Marianne Faithfull song. H*. Ly. Shit. That song floored me. Thanks you to for suggesting it and helping me to be able to listen to it.

Pretty rough stuff, eh? Glad you liked it!

She also has some really "nice" songs, like "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan," which was the opening song in the movie "Montenegro" -- a terrific film.

                Flat out brilliant lyrics:
And in the naked light I saw
                Ten thousand people, maybe more.
                People talking without speaking,
                People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
                And no one dare
                Disturb the sound of silence.
People talking without speaking: Now we text message on our phones

And no one dare...disturb the sound of silence: Because we're all wearing earbuds for our Ipods.

Jimi Hendrix Live at the Fillmore East

                  Machine gun
                  Tearing my body all apart

                  Machine gun, yeah
                  Tearing my body all apart

Evil man make me kill ya
Evil man make you kill me
Evil man make me kill you
Even though were only families apart

Well I pick up my axe and fight like a farmer
                  (you know what I mean)
Hey! and your bullets keep knocking me down

Hey, I pick up my axe and fight like a farmer now
Yeah, but you still blast me down to the ground

The same way you shoot me down, baby
Youll be blown away just the same
                  Three times the pain,
And your own self to blame
                  Hey, machine gun

I aint afraid of your mess no more, babe
                  I aint afraid no more
After a while, your, your cheap talk dont even cause me pain,
So let your bullets fly like rain

cause I know all the time youre wrong baby
And youll be blown away just the same
                  Yeah, machine gun
                  Tearing my family apart
                  Yeah, yeah, alright
                  Tearing my family apart

--for the past 20 years or so, i have maintained that this is the single most impassioned performance ever...

I can't remember all the lyrics ... and nobody should post them all here, but, "Send lawyers, guns and money ..."

-- the late and brilliant Warren Zevon.

Another of his songs, already referenced here, had a great line that Cliff loved -- I see his face and smiling eyes and the quick toss of his long, blonde rock-n-roll DJ hair everytime I hear it:

"I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's ... and his hair was perfect."
                    **************************************
I know a lot less than what there is to be known.

                      KAYA ~ Bob Marley

Wake up and turn I loose
Wake up and turn I loose
                      For the rain is falling

Got to have kaya now, got to have kaya now
Got to have kaya now, for the rain is falling

I feel so high, I even touch the sky
                      Above the falling rain
I feel so good in my neighborhood
                      So here I come again

I got to have kaya now, got to have kaya now
I got to have kaya now, for the rain is falling

I feel so high, I even touch the sky

I got to have kaya now, for the rain is falling

Get up and turn I loose

                      Redemption Song

                      Words by Bob Marley

Old pirates yes they rob I
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I from the
                      Bottom less pit
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the almighty
We forward in this generation triumphantly
All I ever had is songs of freedom

Not as "pretty" as other songs, but it makes
up for it with its passion:

Cause your kisses lift me higher
Like the sweet song of a choir

Apologies to Scrivener and any other educators out there but one of my favorite snippets is:

Well, we busted out of class
Had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three-minute record, baby
Than we ever learned in school

                                "No Surrender" - Bruce Springsteen

Always thought it was an awesome kickstart to Side B of the "Born In The USA." I literally wore out the grooves on this disc my freshman year in college and decided to buy my first CD player rather than replace the vinyl. I kind of regret that decision sometimes now...

But for an entire song on that same album, the lyrics for "Bobbie Jean" can still choke me up to this day. That's why he's The Boss.

(Funny, as I'm posting this my wife just started watching the movie "Lucky You" and "Lucky Town" is playing over the opening credits.)
