I am torn between feeling sorry for Adrian, wanting to lecture him, and wanting to kick his butt.

            Remember now, he's still young.

            How 'bout Lynyrd Skynyrd

            "Simple Man"

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
            And if you do this
It'll help you some sunny day.
Oh, take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman, oh baby, you'll find love,
            And don't forget son,
            There is someone up above.

            (Chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Baby be a simple, kind of man.
Oh, won't you do this for me son,
            If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need, is in your soul,
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
            Is to be satisfied.

            (Chorus)

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow your heart, lord, and nothing else.
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
            Is to be satisfied.
Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!

Lynn, you find that song inspiring? I think it's one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard! Plus, that song says to "keep it inside," and you pride yourself in letting it all out, especially when someone does you or someone close to you an injustice. You put yourself more out there than anyone I know -- something I both admire and wish you'd do less of!

Seriously, Adrian. "Fat Bottomed Girls." Just give it a good listen.
But I'm disturbed! I'm depressed! I'm inadequate! I GOT IT ALL! (George Costanza)

                U2's "Stuck in a Moment"
from their 2000 album, "All That You Can't Leave Behind"

It's the perfect "quitcher bitching and get on with it" song. (There's also an acoustic version on iTunes with just Bono singing and Edge on guitar. They leave out the second verse, but I think it's more powerful.)

                I'm not afraid
                Of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me
                That I haven't already heard
                I'm just trying to find
                A decent melody
A song that I can sing
                In my own company

I never thought you were a fool
But darling, look at you. Ooh.
You gotta stand up straight, carry your own weight
'Cause tears are going nowhere baby

You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it

                I will not forsake
                The colors that you bring
The nights you filled with fireworks
They just left you with nothing
                I am still enchanted
By the light you brought to me
                I listen through your ears
Through your eyes I can see

                You are such a fool
To worry like you do.. Oh
                I know it's tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you don't really need now
                My, oh my

You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Oh love, look at you now
You've got yourself stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it

                I was unconscious, half asleep
The water is warm 'til you discover how deep
I wasn't jumping, for me it was a fall
It's a long way down to nothing at all

You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it

And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if your way should falter
                Along this stony pass

                It's just a moment
                This time will pass.

The Remedy to any bad day.

Do what kids in my day did....(pakalolo optional...be sure to have a designated driver)

                  Get in Car

                  Put in KISS "Destroyer" CD.

                  Turn volume to 11

Drive with the windows down (you live in Hawaii, the scenery is amongst the world's finest)

When "Shout it out Loud" comes on....do just that.

The most invigorating 30 minutes of your life.

Don't be put off by generational differences, and the fact that it's a 31 year old record...it WORKS.

                  Another option with Similar effect....

                  "Slow Ride" by Foghat....once again....volume on 11.

Phish: Divided Sky(no lyrics, but inspirational none the less).

My tastes have changed a LOT over the years, as you will see in my next pick, but music can drive the soul. Music is a VERY important part of my daily life.

                    Bad Religion:"The Answer"

Long ago in a dusty village
full of hunger, pain and strife
a man came forth with a vision of truth
and the way to a better life
he was convinced he had the answer
and he compelled people to follow along
                    but the hunger never vanished
                    and the man was banished
and the village dried up and died
at a time when wise men peered
through glass tubes toward the sky
the heavens changed in predictable ways
and one man was able to find
that he had thought he found the answer
and he was quick to write his revelation
                    but as they were scutinized
                    in his colleagues eyes
                    he soon became a mockery
don't tell me about the answer
'cause then another one will come along soon
I don't believe you have the answer
                    I've got ideas too
but if you've got enough naivete
                    and you've got conviction
then the answer is perfect for you
an urban sprawl sits choking on its discharge
                    overwhelmed by industry
searching for a modern day savior from another place
                    inclined toward charity
                    everyone's begging for an answer
                    without regard to validity
                    the searching never ends
it goes on and on for eternity...

I guess it depends on what motives you, personally, but when I need a pick me up, I love me some music from my roots, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, JFA, Minor threat, CRASS...

and for some feel good All around goodness,
                    STEEL PULSE: Roller Skates

                    Out on the corner
                    With my roller skates
                    Having fun with the girls
                    Says I'm feeling great woo
In the dark of the night
                    Street lamps glowing
On full blast is my radio
                    Radio

Up comes this guy in his flashy car
In his mouth stuck a big cigar
Needed my help said he lost his way
I never heard a word he said
To find some street, said he wanted instructions
So I turned down the music
To point out directions, guess what?
Guy jumped on me messed up my clothes
                    Smashed and grabbed my radio
                    Calling all detectives
                    A criminal at large smoking
A big fat cigar in a flashy car
                    And think him some superstar

                    CHORUS
                    Life life without music
                    I can't go go no
Life without music I can't go

                    I'm gonna get him
                    The last thing I do
                    Must get a beating
                    Till him red and blue

Didn't take long to catch him
Parked up car and music blasting
On the sidewalk he was dancing
Stealing the show, the people watching
                    Roller skate gang
                    Was hot on his tracks
                    Stick him up mister
Give me back Give me back
Give me back Give me back
                    My radio
Guy jumped on me messed up my clothes
                    Saaahed and grabbed my radio

a big fat cigar in a flashy car
And think him some super star

                    Life life without music

                    Life without music

Don't be put off by generational differences, and the fact that it's a 31 year old record...it WORKS.

KISS is one of my top 5 ways to feel better. My number one song to turn up by them is, "I Love it Loud." OOoooOOOoooh yah. Cause I looooooove it loud.

I realize though the music I sing loud to feel better is not everyones cup of tea, as I'm also fond of early 80s punker Wendy O. Williams "I Love Sex (And Rock n Roll)" which happens to have KISS singing background.

Gawd I suck at inspirational suggestions. Kala mai Adri.
I'm disgusted and repulsed, and I can't look away.

Adrian, this is a good one. Hey Jude, by the Beatles. It'll get you out of your depths. Works like a charm.
