The difference in the public reaction is simply due to this: Tiger Woods presented himself as having a wholesome, clean-cut, All-American lifestyle and image. The #1 athlete in his sport who somehow was able to maintain his dominance and focus, despite putting "family first, always." In his words.
The reality? Well, as the events from the past month has shown, nothing could have been further from the truth.
Charlie Sheen? He's a talented actor from a talented family. Has had a very successful TV/movie career for over 20 years. But he didn't have an image that earned him $100 million in endorsements. Everyone knows his personal life has been a checkered one, with two previous failed marriages, drug addiction, and numerous scrapes with the law. So there was no shock value in this latest incident of Charlie Sheen being a "bad boy." It's old news. The fact that you judge Charlie as being a badder "bad boy" than Tiger has nothing to do with it.

This also why Bill Clinton came out smelling like a rose after his affair with Monica Lewinski. Same with Ted Kennedy. They were no saints and weren't held up to higher standards to begin with.
