My favorite shave ice is at B&S Store at the corner of School Street and Frog Lane. It's past Nuuanu going Ewa, just past the freeway onramp... And if you're lucky, the old guy who has run the store for the past 50 years will make the shave ice for you with his bare hands.

This is a great tip, Blaine! Thanks. Definitely something to seek out. A gem of Honolulu that you know everyone will talk about and miss only after it's gone.

I haven't attempted Matsumoto's in years. My family has developed an affection for Aoki's next door. This is for our pilgrimmages to Haleiwa, though. Most of the time, like Leo, I have a soft spot for Waiola. I went to Lunalilo Elementary/Washington Intermediate in McCully, so it brings back memories of hanabada days.
