High 5...a cyber gold star for Lurkah! I've not heard the Ivan Lins rendition but I just downloaded a whole bunch more versions, Sue Matthews included. The original 2 in my iTunes library are Colby & Caruso and Vanessa Williams. Such a romantic song...
Opihi man in the sun, opihi man grab your bag and RUN!
... one of my favorites by the Ka'au Crater Boys, along with "So Free" from the Making Waves album.

By the B-52's. I used to have that album. "Dance This Mess Around" was my favorite track on that one. The 'Surf Guitar' sound was prevalent throughout the B-52's early albums, with obvious influence from the legendary Dick Dale.

Ok...NOW you're talkin' my language!!! The surfer stomp. Rendevous Ballroom on the Newport Peninsula. 1961. Great times surfin' week-end days and dancin' week-end nights. School was only a bridge between week-ends that year! The wardrobe du jour included huaraches and a parka (winter) or a Pendleton shirt (summer)!
Dick Dale and the Deltones was the Rendezvous' house band before they started recording. Great memories! http://tinyurl.com/7tt82
no. I think i have a different idea of romance than whipping the engrish language outta shape li'dat.
and don't kid yerself. yer not that much older than I, if at all.
(i think)
Ahem...listen to your elders! "Turn up the quiet/love wants to dance" is a play on words! Think about 'em. It has nothing to do with "whipping the engrish language outta shape" and everything to do with...oh well, if I have to explain it...
Regardless, I still find that an extremely creative, romantic lyric line within the context of a beautiful song; one of my all time favorites. YMMV!
