    Re: Nicknames

Speaking of Hibachi grill, with the heavy influence of Japanese culture in the islands, we use many Japanese terms on a daily basis.

Like for fishing line, we call it Tsuji.

Of course, "hana buttah" came from the Japanese term "hana" which is nose, making that mean "nose butter".

    We call soy sauce "shoyu".

When someone does something bad, we say "bachi" (to instigate a curse).

When someone is a tightwad (stingy), we call them "manju" (referring to something small like the pastry is; as in not giving very much).

I often substitute "yes" with "hai" when talking casually with friends.

    Plenty more on that.

Ha! My nickname for makeup is "whore paint"!

As in "honey, take me home, it's been a long day at work and I can't wait to wash off my whore paint."

Or following a peck on the cheek (at lunch at work?) "honey, c'mere! I got my whore paint on your face!"

It especially applies to lipstick. I hate that stuff!

wow, guess I don't use many nicknames!

(Item of note that you didn't want to know about anyway but I'm compulsively going to tell you anyway:

The etymology (origin) of the term "Nickname" is disputed. Wikipedia will tell you that it's a distortion of the 1440 Anglo Saxon word 'ekename ' from Old English 'eaca' meaning "increase."

Popular knowledge, however, relates that a nickname is the opposite of what was commonly known as "a Christian Name," based on the appellation of "Old Nick" as one 'nickname' given to the Christian concept of the devil. Thus it was a name used instead of your Christian name, e.g., Robert = Bob, etc.)

A person who farts: "Chair Blaster" lol. I saw the word "Chair Blasting" in a urban dictionary online but I then started saying "Chair blaster" instead. Either way, sounds funny...except for the smell. :P
