If I remember I heard Sony refused to allow porn on BETA. Porn...better than life? Hmmmmmmmm

Dont forget that porn drives the interweb.

I dont really see a need to upgrade to either format. DVD's are pretty sharp to me, but I bet if I got a HDTV I might reconsider it. I think either is also supposed to be backwards compatible to regular DVD, but dont quote me on it.

Beta had other problems. As I recall, the recording time didn't fit consumer's desire to record movies very well. I could be wrong, but I also think the early Beta transports were slow responding. Tended to unload the heads every time you wanted to FF or REW. VHS with the "M" path could load/unload much faster the Beta.

Then there were problems with the tape speeds. I know I've seen Beta 2/3 units that you had to flip a switch to play Beta 1. If it didn't have the switch, you couldn't play it! How lame! With VHS, as long as the deck had the newer speed(s) it could play them all automatically.
