Re: Faster Broadband from Hawaiian Telcom

I have RR and pay $35/month and we get just a tad under 5 Mbit... we also get HD DVR and perhaps we get some discount because of the package. I have a Haw Tel phone with no LD and I use Broadvoice for VOIP with unlimited calling to 33 countries and every feature you could imagine for $20/month about $23 with tax... I am put off by Haw tel phone prices.. just for local calls only its somthing like $26 a month.. with no features or anything. I doubt I would change to DSL or that it would make anything cheaper for us.

But the competition is good and it will put pressure on RR, so I may benifit from it in the long term

My parents have the MyChoice bundle. It includes unlimited local and US Mainland long distance, your landline, and DSL service for 65.95 a month. That price includes three free additional services (like caller ID, etc). If you want all 15 services, it costs additional 3.00 a month.

The actual cost is 80.00 something a month though with taxes etc. See since the cable company is non-regulated, its not bound to be assessing their customers all these
      taxes.

Darn good price. I think it's normally more like $45/month.

My 3Mbit DSL is faster then that. Just tested to 869Kb/s.

I'm kinda surprised the upload offered isn't faster then 1Mb/s.

My wife informs me we pay $41... I must have been thinking of the old days. I got so turned off when the Carlyle Group took over the local phone company, I was ready to throw the phone out the door... let alone go to DSL. There were tons of mistakes on the bill and reaching them was impossible. Bad first impression.

For everyone's information, to get 11Mbps service you will have to be 6,000 wireline feet from the central office. For 7Mbps service you have to be 8,000 wireline feet. For posterity 3Mbps service can be had out to 13,000 and 1.5Mbps at 18,000.
