    Re: Disappearing eating establishments

Haven't been there in a while, but used to go more often when we lived in town. Definitely a local landmark, after 49 years. On the other hand, I totally appreciate all the blood, sweat, and tears the owner has put into the place, and understand the need to hang up the apron and live a quieter life.

It's often said it's a shame that "the next generation" doesn't step in and take over and carry the banner forward... but I also think that a lot of these old-school businesses were built by people who wanted to give their children a better and different future than running an old restaurant, department store, and so on.

For as long as Kenny's stuck around, I'm grateful!

Another one bites the dust. I used to go there a lot, but that was in the 60s and early 70s. I'm sure that's true for a lot of folks. Just another reminder that nothing lasts forever.

Soon to close on July 5, 2015:
"Kenny's in the Kam Shopping Center in Kalihi".
I have not eaten there in.... over 15 years I'm sure. But it was sure the place to go in the early 70's when coming into town from the country.

Angelo Pietro on Kapiolani Blvd closed at the end of August 2014 due to their lease could not be renewed.

When you go to Wendy's for one helluva kaukau.
Too bad. Wendy's is one of my favorite fast food joints, along with Mr. Gyros and Arby's. Arby's is disappearing too -no longer in WW mall.

I have to go to the Navy Exchange food court for Arby's and Gyros, and Pu`uloa road (next to Harley-Davidson) or Aiea for Wendy's. (closest locations for me)

I don't eat at McD's or BK anymore, or even KFC - yet they prosper.
I tried Jack once, and won't go back. The rest are boring or unappetizing, except Subway, which seems to prosper.

How odd that his clientel didn't bother returning, he lost over half his revenue, makes me wonder what else might have been going on.

Good news, Auntie Pasto's is now open all day, 11am-11pm. Hope this means we can get their meatball san whenever!
