    Re: Don Imus, the racist?

Everybody knows that NBC stands for Nothing But Crap. It's the worst media outlet in our nation currently.

Do you have a citation for this one? I understand that women are marrying later and having fewer children, but I haven't seen this.

Please forgive me for getting back on topic ( ), but there's breaking news on CNN's website that includes these excerpts:

MSNBC pulls 'Imus in the Morning'

          POSTED: 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 11, 2007

"NEW YORK (CNN) -- MSNBC has canceled its "Imus in the Morning" simulcast, the network announced Wednesday.
"The decision comes following remarks deemed racist and sexist that radio talk-show host Don Imus made last week about the Rutgers women's basketball team that prompted a number of advertisers to drop the program. The NBC News statement said:
"This decision comes as a result of an ongoing review process, which initially included the announcement of a suspension. It also takes into account many conversations with our own employees. What matters to us most is that the men and women of NBC Universal have confidence in the values we have set for this company. This is the only decision that makes that possible. Once again, we apologize to the women of the Rutgers basketball team and to our viewers. We deeply regret the pain this incident has caused."

Much much more at the link above.
We return you now to our regular irregular programming.

One citation: More having children until later in life (after they have established a career) and a greater percentage remaining unmarried but still electing to have kids! (some percentage of these may be lesbian couples).

What an absolutely lovely statement from NBC! I suppose the fact that at least eight national sponsors have now withdrawn their advertising dollars has nothing to do with the decision? I always thought the Imus simulcast show on MSNBC was stupid...who wants to watch a pair of bushy eyebrows wag at 4 a.m. anyway?

And see how quickly it worked? This thread has gone from "Don Imus, the racist?" to Don Imus, the pregnant unmarried lesbian. Or something.

Can't refute the math! Aaaah...the power of advertising! Is anyone watching the above companies' stocks? Would be interesting to know if there's any relative activity goin' on!

Spike Lee and Whoopy Goldberg were interviewed on The Today Show this morning. Spike said he was going to go buy $100. worth of supplies at Staples to thank them for pulling their ads! Ditto for P&G products! And he even called for 3 CBS honchos to be fired, too!

I don't know how much Howard Stern you guys have been exposed to, but as much racial humor that is in his show, it's not hateful or derogatory. It's comedy....unlike IMUS who proved he doesn't know the difference between racial humor, and racism.
Having listened to him on and off since 1984, I can tell you that. And, yes, he is way more likeable.

That being said, with all the CRAP Howard Stern and Robin Quivers have to had to endure during their 20 plus radio career, Station Mangers firing them, FCC fines, controversy etc...she would definietely have left Howard long ago is he was a racist. They weren't making alot of money in the old days when they first started working together.

Stern now mostly haunts the subscription radio airwaves (Sirius), which means he pretty much has gone under the radar of most people. Maybe Imus could also join him on Sirius radio. I'm sure Imus will resurface somewhere, unless he voluntarily retires from broadcasting to take up fly fishing in Montana.

Imus is 67. Not that that's old, mind you, but I know first hand that in one's 60s the word "retirement" has a melodic undertone!!! Still, I wouldn't want to retire under such negative circumstances. I'd rather go out with a gold-plated watch than a kick in the butt. Sirius seems like it might be the likely alternative.

                            ...fly fishing in Montana! Bwahahaha!

The thing is, with all the sex and grotesque stuff he has on his show, alot of people like yourself miss out on his REAL strength...as an INTERVIEWER, because, understandably, not everyone is interested in hearing some dumb stripper or pornstar try to carry an interview.....it's painful.

That being said, his interviews with actual interesting celebrities are really great. He got information out of Paul McCartney that NO ONE could have...ie: how he REALY feels about Michael Jackson (he doesnt like him) and other things Paul usually dances around, or the interviewer is too afraid to ask.

I have to admit, when he's interviewing some stupid stripper, I change the channel....I wish he would do more "serious" interviews, cos, his interviews are always REALLY revealing and interesting. Sad, cos people who only know him as the "Shock Jock" will never get a chance to hear him unless they subscribe to Sirius.

Anyway, the best thing about him is his honesty, which I'm sure you picked up on when you saw him being interviewed...he's pretty straightforward, No BS, which is why his fans like him so much.
