Well, that's good info to know. I have an appt. with him Wednesday morning at 9:30a.m. I think my foot will be okay for another two days as long as I keep to my daily regiment concerning it.

What, should I do stop the hot compresses for now until I see Dr. Pien? I must say, after compresses with Epsom salt. I get three sensations all at once. A bit of pain,stinging...from Epsom salt I guess? Plus I have this profound sensation of wanting to scratch all over it lightly, my ankle around the sores. It's very satisfying feeling, then the third feeling...a feel of trobbing, pulsating throb over, and over.

here I thought the colon cancer was from eating lots of white bread, and the other one from getting kicked once to often in the nuts by the sibling.

Beachboy, please be extremely careful about any advice you get from anonymous folks on the internet. They may claim to be a doctor or a nurse or an attorney or whatever, but you never know who they really are or what their agenda might be. Taking medical or legal advice from an anonymous person on the net is just dumb.
Good luck at the doctor's on Wednesday.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Beachboy, I can only tell you that we never use Epsom salt compresses on wounds. I know it is an old-timey home recipe---I remember having to soak my smashed toe in a pot of warm water with Epsom salts when I was a child.

I can't give you advice about specific treatment for your problem, though. You know I would love to toss you in the back of my truck and haul you to the ER. I am very worried about your leg---the description of your wounds and ESPECIALLY the swelling of the foot is of great concern. Delaying treatment is just not good, IMHO. Scares me, honestly, and I don't scare easy.

Sorry to be such a nag. Not sure if it is the nurse or Mom in me, or maybe a bit of both

Absolutely, except in the case where someone tells you to please go see an actual doctor or haul on over to the ER. As an actual real-life RN who has never played one on TV, I know from many years of experience that the safest and best advice is to tell someone to take their purulent wounds/chest pains/shortness of breath problems to the ER. It would be insane to try to diagnosis and treat over the internet or over the phone.

My very first reaction to Beachboy's post describing his wound was to tell him to please go to the ER. I STILL think he should go to the ER. Like, NOW.

Other than that, I wish him well, whatever he chooses to do.

Re: I think I got problems!!!

We've all probably used the "wait and see" method when dealing with health concerns, including infections, but unfortunately that can have disastrous results. Remember the woman who died on Maui a year ago?

                  http://www.moolelo.com/mourn-kumu.html

The Maui News stated "... death was caused by septic shock, which happens when bacteria enters the bloodstream and can bring about fatal reactions to a patient's major organs." The woman, according to her father, " did not seek immediate medical attention after starting to feel ill May 21. The following day, she had a fever and body aches, but she thought she could tough it out and feel better if she got nourishment, he said. Later, family members called an ambulance and had medics rush her to Maui Memorial Medical Center, Maxwell said. There, she rapidly deteriorated and was put on life support before dying of the infection May 23. 'It just closed down her whole body system,' he said."

This sad story serves to remind us all to be extra careful. Her family did its best once they realized the extremity of the situation, but it was just too late. Beachboy, be careful and don't put yourself in the same situation.

Re: I think I got problems!!!

one more night to make it through, then it's off to see Dr. Pien at 9:30 A.M. appt. in the morning!

Not to much to report about ankle except it seems somewhat numb. After I first take off bandages I use half a bottle of Peroxcide to clean wounds...it burns pretty bad at the point. This procedure is followed by me entering the shower and rinsing off the peroxcide in scolding hot water from my Water Pik shower head. Once I start with the hot water my entire ankle foot feels this profund need to be scratched all over it! So I lightly scratch, or rub my skin around injury. You cannot believe the sensation that I get to itch! I have never felt anything like it in my entire life. God!!!! It feels sooooo good to scratch!!!!!!

Re: I think I got problems!!!

looks like I'm into yet another course of antibiotics(Keflex). Dr. Pien has ordered a Bone Scan for me first thing tomorrow morning. He said if the infection has found it's way to my bones....they would then have to put an IV in me, and teach me how to treat myself daily that way. I believe they would be putting a "Hepburn lock[sp]" on me for the IV.

                      Anyway, 8:30 A.M.(scan time) comes quickly...so I need some rest and it's now 9:46P.M.....laters

I was worried about the infection spreading to the bone, Beachboy...concerned when the first doc ordered an x-ray.

And it's a heplock, not a Hepburn lock---an IV port filled with heparin between IV doses so it won't clot off. They might consider a PICC line, if the IV is for an extended period of time.

Sending good wishes and prayers...sleep well.

Guess what, I'm on my fourth course of Antibiotics!! I take a cocktail of two antibiotics twice a day. Usually the morning course I vomit it up. I'm not sure if this is a flesh eating staph infection or no. Doesn't seem to be like the normal strain. I'm totally unable to clean it out! Even hot compresses of water & epsom salt doesn't seem to work?

Beachboy... if you are serious about this...it should be relayed to other media outlets.

Others need to be warned and you need immediate attention!
I think we at HT would be very disappointed to learn that a fellow HT poster passed away it could possibly get to this point! People have died because of this kine... (sorry for speaking for others.. )
